Colder Weather in February Expected to Impact Supply Chain Networks 2018-02-05

CIFFA is the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association; CIFFA represents Canadian forwarders (like Milgram) and their interests from coast to coast to coast as well as abroad and at the international level (where CIFFA are a member of an NGO called FIATA, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations). CIFFA reports the following about the state of freight:
CIFFA members have continuously been reporting poor service levels at the Port of Montreal over the past week and a half. At a National Board Meeting last week, Montreal-based members indicated that weather has contributed to the poor service levels, but that there seem to be issues across the terminals. Anecdotally, due to vessel bunching and lack of labour.
Some CIFFA members have asked for extended gate hours and weekend access. To date, CIFFA has not received a response to its inquiries about any issues or delays.
Elsewhere across the network, February is expected to be a very cold month, so network delays can be expected across the system, where speed and supply of cars are affected.
