General System of Preferences Program Expires

Important Notice to US Importers - GSP Program Expired December 31, 2017 2018-01-04

U.S. Customs and Border protection has issued a notice that the U.S. General System of Preferences (GSP) expired on December 31, 2017.

Effective January 1, 2018, goods that would otherwise have been eligible for entry into the United States under GSP are now subject to the regular, non-preferential General rates of duty

We are monitoring this situation carefully and we hope to see the GSP program renewed by Congress retroactive to January 1, 2018. However, there is no way to predict if and when this will occur.

In the meantime, we will continue to flag affected import entries with the GSP special program indicator but account for the duties under the General Tariff. In the event the GSP is renewed retroactively, refund claims will be filed wherever possible.
