Prince Rupert Phase II North Expansion, Rail Yard Completion 2017-11-27

Prince Rupert continues to evolve into a strategic North American gateway that benefits American and Canadian shippers alike.

The strains, stresses and delays that were experienced with respect to West Coast traffic over this past late Summer and early Fall (caused at least in part by ongoing construction at Prince Rupert) were well worth the while.

DP World (the concession holder and operator of Prince Rupert’s Fairview Cove container terminal) has announced that the latest round of expansion has concluded and that their handling capacity has increased substantially:

DP World Prince Rupert is pleased to advise that the Phase II North Expansion’s rail yard upgrades are complete.
The rail yard redevelopment includes the addition of 6,000 feet of on-dock rail.
With the successful construction of all phases of the expansion project finalized, the Fairview terminal capacity has increased to 1.35M TEU.

Aerial photos demonstrate the area of the twin berths at Fairview Cove as well as the both pairs of Super Post Panamax gantry cranes and on dock rail siding that help to make Prince Rupert one of the most efficient facilities of its kind.

Some interesting background on the advantages of using their facilities are available here on the Port of Prince Rupert’s website.
