Consultations on Canada negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with the Pacific Alliance 2017-08-15

In November 2012, Canada was granted observer status to the Pacific Alliance, a Latin American trade bloc with four member states: Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

The Government of Canada is now seeking the views of the Canadian public and interested Canadian stakeholders on the scope of potential negotiations regarding a possible Free Trade Agreement with the Pacific Alliance.

Canada already has stand-alone free trade agreements with each of the four members of the Pacific Alliance. According to Government sources, an FTA with the Pacific Alliance would support Canada’s interests in further diversifying trade, allow for cross-cumulation, provide an opportunity to modernize Canada’s current FTAs and otherwise strengthen Canada’s links in Latin America.

Interested parties are invited to submit their views to Global Affairs Canada by September 10, 2017. Instructions and additional information can be found in the Part 1, Volume 151, No. 32 of the Canada Gazette.
