Chittagong Congestion Expected to Clear in Two Weeks 2017-07-25

The Chittagong port in Bangladesh could soon clear the congestion that started building up at the site in May, local media said, citing the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).

Officials reportedly informed that the port plans to undertake a number of measures to deal with the issues that arose due to an increase in seasonal imports at the port, fewer operational hours during Ramadan, bad monsoon weather, equipment shortages and cyclonic storms.

CPA plans to deal with the backlog of ships at its outer anchorage by adding another shift, introducing 24-hour unloading, and increasing existing vessel length limits.

With the implementation of these measures, the situation at the port is expected to return to normal within two weeks.
