Chittagong Weather and Operational Update 2017-06-20

Last week we wrote about serious flooding in and around Chittagong that came in the wake of a tropical depression and recent heavy rain  in Bangladesh. Milgram’s agent reports that the winds and precipitation have subsided and that freight operations there have resumed to normal.

At the same time, the people of Bangladesh have to suffer the consequences and aftermath of this event where logistics and everyday life has become even more challenging and food prices have spiked.

Read more on those issues in an article from the Daily Star (a Bangladeshi news site).

Inclement weather and flooding in low lying areas are hazards that the people of Bangladesh live with throughout the Monsoon season; garments are made in Chittagong and elsewhere in that country.

Those goods are then packed and shipped from the port that is in relatively close proximity to many of their factories; because of the peril of bad weather, it is especially important that importers have cargo insurance placed on goods that are delivered from Bangladesh and elsewhere to hedge against this particular transport risk that is inherent with importing from basically anywhere.
