CITT Finds Injurious Dumping of Silicon Metal Originating in Brazil, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Norway, Russia and Thailand 2017-04-24

On April 21, 2017, pursuant to a preliminary injury inquiry, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) determined that the evidence discloses a reasonable indication that the dumping and subsidizing of the below mentioned goods have caused injury or are threatening to cause injury to the domestic industry. 
 
This preliminary injury inquiry follows the notification, on February 20, 2017, that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) had initiated investigations into the alleged injurious dumping and subsidizing of the below-mentioned goods.
 
Product description:
 
Silicon metal containing at least 96.00% but less than 99.99% silicon by weight, and silicon metal containing between 89.00% and 96.00% silicon by weight that contains aluminum greater than 0.20% by weight, of all forms and sizes.
 
Originating in or exported from: 
  • The Federative Republic of Brazil (Brazil),
  • the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan),
  • Lao People’s Democratic Republic,
  • Malaysia,
  • the Kingdom of Norway (Norway),
  • the Russian Federation and
  • the Kingdom of Thailand (Thailand) 
The subject goods are usually classified under the following Harmonized System classification number: 2804.69.00.00. This HS code is for convenience of reference only.
 
Additional information about the CITT investigations will be made available in a Statement of Reasons that will be available within 20 days of this preliminary determination of injury.
