Update on Nationwide Road Transport Strike in India
Labour Troubles Persisted in India, Emerged in Sri Lanka and Both are Settled Quickly 2017-04-19
Previously we announced that truckers in India had called a general strike across the Subcontinent.
To confound matters, port workers in Colombo had been working at a go-slow pace to protest working conditions and that had reduced their throughput causing delays; Colombo in Sri Lanka is a significant gateway and transshipment hub for container traffic that originates locally as well as elsewhere in South Asia.
We are happy to announce that the general strike in India never materialized (it has evidently been called-off).
Also, following negotiations between the two sides, the issues in Sri Lanka have been settled too and the port workers there are no longer working to rule.
